In his book Colonial Buganda and the End of Empire: Political Thought and Historical Imagination in Africa (Cambridge University Press, 2017), Dr. Jonathon Earle illustrates the rich and diverse intellectual history of Buganda, an East African kingdom that came to be incorporated into the modern state of Uganda.

Workshop on Emerging Approaches in Uganda Studies

Over the past ten years, the historiography of Uganda has been invested with new vigour. Building upon the increasing availability of private and public archives, and innovative ethnographic work, scholars have developed new areas of enquiry and have sought to rethink much of the work that was associated with the East African Institute of Social Research during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
